The Choice for Kaduna Central – Why Senator Shehu Sani is the Path ForwardSpeaker: Prof. Kailani Muhammad, DG

Confederation of APC Support GroupsGood afternoon, gentlemen of the press, and more importantly, my fellow brothers and sisters across the length and breadth of Kaduna Central. We are gathered here today at a critical crossroads in our political journey. We are not here simply to discuss the mechanics of an election or the technicalities of party loyalty.

We are here to talk about the soul of our district. We are here because the people of Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Igabi, Chikun, Kajuru, and our metropolitan heart in Kaduna North and South are asking for something more than a representative. They are asking for a voice that doesn’t just whisper in the hallowed chambers of Abuja, but one that roars for the common man right here at home.

As the Director General of the Confederation of APC Support Groups, my responsibility is to look beyond the surface. My duty is to identify those who can best bridge the gap between the government and the grassroots. When we look at the landscape of Kaduna Central, one name stands out as a symbol of courage, consistency, and raw empathy: Senator Shehu Sani. Many of you remember his first tenure.

He didn't sit in a high office and forget the dust on the roads to our villages. He was the Senator who told the truth when it was hard to say.

He was the one who broke the culture of secrecy by publicly declaring his earnings, proving that he believed the people were the true owners of the mandate. He was the man who stood as a shield against policies and loans that would have burdened our children’s children with debt they did not ask for.

Politics in this country can often feel robotic and cold. It is too often about "directives" from above and cold "calculations" for personal gain. But we are tired of robotic leadership. We need a Senator who is human, someone who feels the heartbeat of the streets. We need a leader who truly understands the deep-seated pain of the farmer in Birnin Gwari who cannot go to his field because of fear. We need a representative who sees the silent struggle of the youth in Kaduna South who are looking for a spark of hope.

We need a Senator who possesses the international stature to bring global attention to our needs, yet has the local heart to sit on a simple mat and listen to the wisdom of our elders. We are not just talking about potential; we are talking about a proven track record. We are talking about the man who gave us water when we were thirsty, the man who gave our children classrooms to learn in, and the man who stood as a lone voice to protect our state from a mountain of debt.

From the solar lights in our streets to the hospitals in our villages, Shehu Sani’s footprints are everywhere."Specific Achievements of Senator Shehu Sani (Kaduna Central, 2015–2019)Legislative Oversight and National IntegrityChairman, Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts: He famously blocked a $350 million World Bank loan requested by the then-state government. He argued that the state's debt profile was already unsustainable and that the loan would "trap future generations in a mountain of debt.

"Champion of Transparency: He was the first Senator in Nigeria’s history to publicly disclose the exact "running costs" and salaries of lawmakers (₦13.5 million monthly), breaking the long-standing culture of secrecy in the National Assembly.Asset Declaration: He set a standard for accountability by publicly declaring his assets upon taking office, encouraging other public officials to do the same.

Health and Social InfrastructureHospital Projects: He facilitated the construction and complete equipping of several Primary Healthcare Centers across the seven local governments of Kaduna Central, particularly in underserved rural areas.Water Provision: He oversaw the installation of over 200 solar-powered boreholes and hand-pump wells to tackle the water crisis in communities like Birnin Gwari, Chikun, and Kajuru.

Electrification: He initiated the distribution and installation of hundreds of solar streetlights in various wards to improve nighttime security and boost local small-scale businesses.Education and EmpowermentClassroom Construction: He built and renovated dozens of classroom blocks in public schools across the district to create a more conducive learning environment for children.Welfare for the Vulnerable: Through his constituency office, he maintained a consistent "stomach infrastructure" program, providing food items, clothing, and financial grants to widows, orphans, and internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Youth & Trade Support: He distributed hundreds of empowerment tools, including sewing machines, grinding machines, and motorcycles, to help youth and women start their own businesses.

Security and Peace Advocacy Support for Local Security: He provided patrol vehicles and communication equipment to local vigilante groups and security outfits, especially in the banditry-prone areas of Birnin Gwari and Giwa.Conflict Resolution: Using his background as a human rights activist, he personally intervened in several communal clashes, promoting peace dialogues between different ethnic and religious groups in Kaduna.

Direct Human ImpactMedical Outreach: He sponsored numerous free medical outreaches, providing surgeries, eye exams, and free medications to thousands of constituents who could not afford private healthcare.

Legal Aid: He provided free legal representation for many indigent citizens who were being held in correctional centers without trial or facing injustice. Our great party, the APC, is a party of progress and transformation.

To fully realize the "Renewed Hope" agenda of our leadership, we must ensure that the Red Chamber is filled with "Renewed Strength." Shehu Sani is not a stranger to this struggle. He is a comrade, a human rights crusader, and a veteran who has spent his life in the trenches for the sake of justice. His return to the Senate is not just a political move; it is a restoration of the people's power. It is a win for the woman in the market, the teacher in the classroom, and the laborer on the street

Therefore, today, the Confederation of APC Support Groups is making its stance clear and unwavering: We stand firmly with Senator Shehu Sani. We are not just supporting a candidate; we are supporting a legacy of activism and a future of genuine accountability. I am calling on all our support groups across the seven local governments of this district: do not stay in your offices.

Go back to the streets, go back to the wards, and go back to the homes of the people.Let us bring back the man who has always been the voice for the voiceless. Let us return Shehu Sani to the Red Chamber so that Kaduna Central can once again be the heartbeat of advocacy in Nigeria.

Thank you, and may God bless Kaduna State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
