Dr. Mohammed Shamsidin Ango Abdullahi Dumps PDP, Backs ADC Ahead of 2027

A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Mohammed Shamsidin Ango Abdullahi, has formally resigned his membership of the party, citing lack of internal cohesion and concerns over the direction of democracy in Nigeria.

In a letter of resignation made available to journalists on Tuesday, Abdullahi said his decision followed careful thought and wide consultations with party members and community stakeholders.

According to him, developments within the PDP in recent years have shown an inability to foster political unity capable of strengthening both the party and the country.

“Based on the unfolding observation of the events and situations of the People’s Democratic Party, especially within the past few years, and the direction of democracy in our dear country, Nigeria, I feel it is necessary at this point to resign from my membership in the PDP,” the letter read.

Abdullahi lamented what he described as the absence of political cohesion needed to unify the party and promote national development, stressing that such shortcomings have weakened the PDP’s democratic ideals.

He expressed optimism that Nigeria could still build a democratic system anchored on equity, fairness and justice, capable of serving all citizens and projecting the country as a global model, given its vast human and natural resources.

Meanwhile, Abdullahi declared his support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the party as better positioned to offer credible leadership and win the 2027 general elections.

He thanked members of the PDP for their support over the years and wished the party well in its future engagements.
Dr. Abdullahi, a former public office holder and political stakeholder, is expected to formally align with the ADC in the coming days.
