Shehu Sani Sponsors Painting Competition, Says Art Can Promote Peace, Unity and National Development

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Comrade Shehu Sani, has reaffirmed the power of art as a tool for peacebuilding, unity and national development as he sponsored the National Museum of Art and Technology Painting Competition held on Wednesday at the Kaduna Museum.

The event brought together young artists, students, cultural enthusiasts, curators and community leaders who showcased a rich collection of artworks depicting themes of peace, diversity, tolerance and social harmony.

In his remarks, Senator Sani said the competition was designed to encourage creativity among young Nigerians, while providing them a platform to express themselves freely through visual arts. He noted that art remains a universal language that can bridge ethnic, religious and political divides.

“Art has the power to heal, to unify and to inspire,” Sani said.“What these young artists have demonstrated today is that creativity can serve as a panacea for our national challenges, including unemployment, social tension and the lack of opportunities for the youth.”

He stressed that investment in the creative industry has the potential to boost job creation, tourism and youth empowerment, urging government agencies, cultural institutions, NGOs and private organisations to support initiatives that nurture emerging talents.

Curators at the Kaduna Museum commended Sani for his long-standing commitment to cultural growth and youth development, describing the initiative as one that will inspire many young creatives to pursue professional careers in the arts.

At the end of the competition, outstanding participants received certificates, cash prizes and art materials.
Senator Sani awarded:

  • ₦250,000 to the overall winner
  • ₦200,000 to the second-place winner
  • ₦200,000 to the third-place winner
  • ₦50,000 each to other participants

He prayed that God rewards all the young artists who took part in the event, adding that he will continue to support programmes that promote peace, unity, skills development and creative engagement among young people.

The winning artworks will be displayed at the Kaduna Museum and other public exhibitions aimed at promoting peace and unity across the country.
