NIGERIA INDEPENDENCE: A HOPELESS NATION AT 63
Mr Faduri Oluwadare Joseph aka Fadojoe, a presidential aspirant under Labour Party, has x-rayed the myriad of problems besieging Nigeria at 63 and has proffered solutions that he believes that if properly observed will make Nigeria a great nation again.
This he disclosed through his usual broadcast from his official YouTube channel on Sunday, October 1, 2023 in commemoration of Nigeria 63rd independence.
Setting on track with "Happy Independence to Nigerians both home and abroad". He followed by asserting that "after president Bola Ahmed Tinubu addressed the nation it's important that as opposition we also assess the state of the country. The state of our nation is bad, terrible, plagued by insecurity, joblessness, demoralizing, hardship and in summary, it's nothing to write home about; even when we are supposed to be celebrating 63 years of progress".
"If we go back in history to 63 years ago, Nigeria was one of the best countries on earth. The naira was stronger than dollar. Nigeria was into exportation in coal, oil, cocoa, coffee and so many other products. There were so many industries in Nigeria: refineries, tyre industries, textile industries, mining industries and so many other manufacturing industries/companies. Now fast forward to 63 years after, most industries have left Nigeria, our exportation is almost zero. A dollar is now equal to N1,000. Today our refineries are no longer working".
Berating the terrible state of Nigeria, the human rights activist noted that the country is now in a terrible state of hopelessness that, we are now importing everything, even tooth pick. That is how bad the situation of our dear nation has deteriorated under the different governments coming and going out: both military civilians hovering from one political party to another. Lamenting that, "the country has continued in vicious circle of vicissitude as the same generation of people have been running the country for the past 63 years, changing from military uniform to civilian gab hovering from one political party to another. All they have given us, is the nation where we have everything, but we lack everything.
"Though despite that it’s still important to celebrate our independence because, there is nothing as good as our own. But while celebrating we must also reflect on the serious issues bedeviling our beloved country.
"On May 29, 2023 when president Bola Ahmed Tinubu was sworn in, there appeared to be a ray of hope. But from the first day of his swearing in, he announced the removal of fuel subsidy. And that marked the beginning of another woe in addition to the barrages of problems besieging Nigeria.
"After that he introduced a problematic students loan that some of us faulted. And the same government has increased school fees of all federal government higher institutions astronomically. And this is dragging the country to the situation where the poor Nigerians will find it difficult to send their children to higher institution".
Asserting that every policy of this government in the area of fuel, education or jobs has brought more hardship to Nigerians. According to him, It has gotten to the extent that an average Nigerian wants to leave the country to anywhere in the world.
The leader of Rescue The Vulnerable Initiative aka Rescue Movement For New Nigeria further observed that Nigeria now has the record of the highest rate of unemployment in the world. And now pride as one of the most indebted nations on earth. Yet the leaders keep borrowing to steal. In addition to the economic downturn there is so much insecurity in Nigeria, kidnapping all over the nation, genocide everywhere as innocent Nigerians are brutally massacred. Farmer can no longer go to farm because of fear of being abducted by terrorist operating under the name, bandits.
"Our youths that supposed to be the future and the strength of our nation, can’t even get gainful employment. Thereby they are rendering our youths completely useless; as only good for political thugs, social media commentators and e-thugs to harass their political opponents while the children of the political leaders are abroad building better life to return to rule over the people that their fathers rule over. Even there is no longer hope for the children.
"Our parents that are already in their old age, and now die avoidable death, due to the suffering of no pension after serving the government.
"Therefore, we are using this medium to appeal to president Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his government that there is so much to be done. We cannot continue sitting on a keg of gunpowder like this and not get exploded some days. The government needs to see how we can rewrite the history of our country and go back to where we missed it. Put in all it takes to ensure that our refineries are working not to keep waiting on Dangote until he gets his own private refinery working.
"We must go back to agriculture and the government must engage in agriculture before encouraging the citizens to engage in farming. We must make education our priority and not indiscriminate increment in school fees. Our security forces should be well paid, well taken care of and well equipped to combat insecurity. And they have what it takes if and only if the government gives them the necessary support.
"Nigerians are great people and can be so dynamic that if the right thing is in place, things will jerk back to normal in the shortest time beyond human imaginations. Nigeria can still be great again. Happy independence to my fellow Nigerians", he concluded.
