Certificate Scandal: Concerned Nigerian Youths Hail U.S Court Order Against Tinubu
Group under aegis of Concerned Nigerian Youths has hailed the
United States Court over the order given to Chicago State University (CSU) to release President Bola Tinubu’s academic records to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar within stipulated time frame.
Recalled that the presiding U.S judge, Nancy Maldonado dismissed Tinubu’s objection, issuing a two-day ultimatum to CSU to release the documents to Atiku.
The Judge, who upheld the September 20 ruling of US Magistrate Judge, Jeffery Gilbert that ordered the CSU to release Tinubu’s academic records as requested by Atiku, stressed that the PDP candidate Atiku had the right to have access to the records.
The group in a press statement signed by Comrade Hassan Aliyu said , the the Concerned Nigerian Youths expressed joy over what it described as "laudable" decision of the judge who stood firm that Chicago University must produce Tinubu's academic documents.
According to the statement,it is a clear evidence that United States has a very strong judicial institution that did not compromise standard of judgement.Despite the fact that there pressure for compromise, the judge stood her ground.
The statement further reads, "We are happy and satisfied that the Court also overruled President Tinubu’s objections and adopted Judge Gilbert’s recommended decision
"It is a great feat that Justice Maldonado of the Northern District of Illinois ruled in favour of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar's application under 28 U.S.C. § 1782.
"However, in compliance to court order , the Chicago State University (CSU) finally released the academic records of President Bola Tinubu to Atiku Abubakar.
"Atiku, the presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria’s 25 February election, had requested the documents to back his allegation of forgery of CSU certificate against Mr Tinubu. The allegation of forgery was one of those dismissed by Nigeria’s presidential election court in the suit Atiku filed to challenge the election of Mr Tinubu."
